As you may or may not know I love to read (Of course you know right?!? If you have visited my blog before you know I love to read and write) but just in case you’re new here, I LOVE TO READ and collect books. One of my favourite places to look is second hand book stalls or charity shops and this week I grabbed quite a few books when I took my nanna out for lunch and had a nosey round some charity shops. And here is what I got;
- The mystery club 1 through to 15. I used to love these books when I was a kid, they inspired a big part of me wanting to write as I got older. They are by an author called Fiona Kelly and actually follow on from another series called ‘The Mystery Kids’ which as you can guess is about a group of kids that get into mischief and sold mysteries. The Mystery Club follows on from that, Holly Adam’s the main character who has moved towns and meets some new friends who she now solves mysteries with, she’s one of those kids who seems to attract trouble. These books are more aimed at young teens than their younger counterparts which was aimed at older ‘children’ but not quite Tweens. But these books were my life as a young teen. I would visit my local library every week and rent out one of these books, and once I read them all I would then go back to the beginning and rent and read them all again.

- The next one I found was Room 13 by Robert Swindells – This book I vividly remember one of my school teachers reading it to the class and it quickly becoming one of my favourite introductions to horror. It wasn’t horror in the form of blood and guts and gore… oh no… but it was about a vampire hidden in a mysterious room that only appeared at certain times and the main character was on a trip and their friends were all being bitten by this vampire. I remember it really captivating me and I never forgot about it so I was very happy to see it and be able to own it myself to read again.

- The last book I found is actually a travel journal that the previous owner never decided to use and seen as I plan to hopefully start to do some more travelling over the next few years, I decided it would be a great thing to grab, explore and use. It comes complete with stickers too because who doesn’t love a journal with stickers lol.
All these books were second hand (obviously) and cost me under £20 for them all. The Mystery Club books were £1 each and there was 15 so of course that took a huge chunk of my book money. The Room 13 book cost me £1.50 because it was hardback. And the travel journal cost me £2. So all in all it cost me £18.50 to buy 17 books!!! Which to me is a right bargain.
The Mystery Club books used to originally cost between £2.99 and £3.50 to buy brand new. Wow if only books could be that cheap brand new these days right! Room 13 doesn’t have a price on it for when it was new but I imagine it would have been about £4 new as a hardback book give or take. And the travel journal was from Aldi supermarket probably not so long ago and possibly could have been around £5 maybe, again give or take. So the books most likely brand new once upon a time would have cost me about £55 altogether. So the fact that I paid only £18.50 for them all and some are memories from my childhood and my youth well… it makes them priceless really!!!
Hope you liked my blog if so remember to like it pretty please and let me know, have you read any of these?
Take care
