The most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten… Probably has to be a rather burnt to a crisp hot dog that me and my family had whilst camping out at a lake. Now, it was just a normal supermarket sausage, it wasn’t from a butchers, it didn’t have anything extraordinary about it, other than it was made with love by my husband for me on a make shift BBQ when camping, from an old washing machine drum that had been repurposed into a BBQ for the campers staying at the lake. Just being at the lake with my family was very special because due to a family illness, we hadn’t been able to do anything like this as a family for over 6 years!!! So, although it was a standard sausage, cooked on a make shift piece of cooking equipment, just us being together and having fun made the food all the more delicious and made me appreciate every last bite!!!
And if I’m honest, I’m not the biggest meat eater, I’d take a salad over most meats any day, but I decided to join in with the fun. I also got to try some wild elderflower tea and with our meat we got to try some wild garlic that surrounded the lake. Luckily for us my husband has done a forager course so knows what to pick and what not to pick, and it was great seeing the kids enjoy finding out about wild fruits, leaves and vegetables that we can find and use from nature.

My husband being the caveman, meat eater he is of course took along some steak to be BBQ’d and smoked on the washing machine drum grill. But being outdoors in nature, being smoke cooked and flame grilled gave the steak and meat so much flavour. And to wash it down, we enjoyed an alcoholic free beer and the kids had J2o’s. The time away was magic, it cleared our minds and made life seem so much simpler being away from the rat race that has become the world around us.
I also took the time we had away together to walk the lake, take in all the sights, sounds and experiences and to write and plan some blog post ideas in my little notebook that I like to carry with me everywhere. I mean what writer would I be if I didn’t at least keep some form of writing implement with me at all times, especially for writing emergencies…

Hope you enjoyed my blog post, let me know, do you enjoy camping? xo Piper xo
