I got to visit the place where Bridget Jones lived!!!

As a huge book lover, it’s no surprise that I’ve read and adored the book series of Bridget Jones by Helen Fielding… It’s also then no surprise that I have also seen the films, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget Jones the Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones’s Baby and Bridget Jones Mad about the Boy!!! So, it only seems fitting that I, one such fan of the series should get to see the iconic flat she lived in.

The flat is perched on Bedale Street which is were the Borough Market is situated and sits next to the Globe pub. Both the flat and the pub are met with a very close encounter of the archway of a bridge. Her flat was the one situated above the pub on the first floor and although I couldn’t peek inside I know that why the exterior looks a lot like how it was for ‘Dear old Bridget’, the interior would never look the same as it was filmed at a studio. And I believe over the years the actual inside has been home to many different eateries, not even a flat!!!

Whilst it was amazing to see and envision where the iconic scenes of the movies were played out, it was also great to visit to actual Borough Market too. When I was there, a lot of other people and tourists like me wanted to grab a photo with the iconic building, so it became a quick glimpse and a swift move along for others to come and take their photos to. But I have to say the market itself was pretty cool and a great detour from the flat after my one minute of photo opportunity with it.

The market itself housed stalls and stalls of freshly cooked food, baked goods, lavender lemonade, fresh fruits, exotic fruits, cheeses and even… edible insects!!! Literal insects inside lollipops, like what the actual?!? Whilst I did not try any of those at the time I did treat myself to a Lavender lemonade and some fresh Dragon Fruits which were delish… They even had the one with the pink insides and not just the white insides, it was… Amazing!!!

It was pretty awesome to see this side of London, normally when I have been to London before it has been to go to a concert at the 02 arena. I normally take a train up, go to the concert and then take the last train home. But this time we got there a lot earlier than planned, and we had a few hours to kill before setting out to see our latest gig at the 02 and so we decided to explore. And since I have always wanted to see the iconic flat in the Bridget Jones movies, I took my chance and ran with it.

Would I recommend going to visit the flat of Bridget Jones and the Borough Market? Yeah, why the hell not, if your up that way and already in London and don’t mind a little detour from what ever else it is your doing then sure, it’s a great place to visit and experience. The only downside is that the market and the road the flat is situated on is extremely busy (No shock there really it is London) but I mean, really, really busy! And you have to be on the look out for pick pockets too as they roam the area because of how busy it is. With just regards to the flat, its great to see, I enjoyed it, but everyone who goes there ends up wanting a picture with the building, so it can be busy, you have to wait your turn and some people just won’t move out the way after their turn so end up photo bombing your photo. But if like me you don’t mind editing your photo with face stickers, then your all good lol. Plus unfortunately there does seem to be a lot of rubbish hanging about, next to the building was bags and bags piled up of rubbish bags needing to be collected, but as long as you angle your camera right, you shouldn’t get any rubbish in the shot.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post today, and I would totally love to know about or go and see other iconic book / film locations. So, let me know if you know of any that I could go and see on my next trip out and about.
