Latest Book Haul… From T K MAXX…

I actually need to calm down on the book buying obsession that has taken over my life as of late… I literally only purchased a load of books a mere week or so ago… But in my defence I have actually read all of those books and I am going on holiday soon and very much need some books to take with me.

The books in my haul today are from T K MAXX, and if you read my previous post you will know that I love shopping at T K MAXX for books. They are cheap, pretty and are usually books I might never have seen before in a normal book store, especially the special editions… But… Let’s look at the books I got myself today then shall we;

Book One – What are you looking for is in the Library – By Michiko Aoyama. This book caught my eye due to its pretty and rather Japanese esk themed cover. Plus the cutie pie black cat that sits next to a pile of books. The book is about a Librarian (Well… Duh I guess lol) but it explores how she is able to sense exactly what it is that each visitor needs from the library and the books at that time. This book also seems to have won a prize for being ‘A Waterstones Best Fiction of 2023’, so naturally as a wanna be author and writer I need to investigate how one wins prizes for books.

Book Two – The 6 Minute Entrepreneur – By Sara Davies – This book is by one of the Dragons that appeared on Dragons Den, and of course I wish to know secrets from a Dragon that may help me with my Author Business that I hope one day will become a viable business. But… I know that I need all the help I can get lol. Being an author is no easy task, and not all authors actually make that much money, but getting some extra info on how to be a #Bossbabe / #Bossbitch can’t be wrong… Right?

Book Three – Caraval – By Stephanie Garber – This book is about a game, a dangerous game where the beautiful streets of a town are turned into a maze and no one is whom they seem. It’s giving me, ‘Hunger Game’-esk vibes, but I’m not sure how ‘Hunger Gamey’ it is. But once I have read it I will review it and let you know. I also want to read it because it is a book in the genre that my first book will be, when of course it is published later this year… EEEEK!!!

Book Four – Pride and Prejudice – By Jane Austin – Obviously a classic, one that I have never actually read but due to me currently doing an English Literature degree, I have decided that really I need to be brushing up on my classic book reads. This book is a classic love story of opposites attract and I can’t wait to read how an original romance type novel from era’s gone by reads and how it compares to the romance novels of today. I also really wanted it because the Fore-Edge of the book, (The part of the pages not glued into the spine) are painted gold!!!

Book Five – The Tenant of Wildfell Hall – By Anne Bronte – Out of all the books written by the Bronte’s, this one I have to be honest I have never heard of before, but because of that it intrigued me and made me want to see why I haven’t heard of it, or maybe just give it the love it deserves. And like I said before, doing a literature degree means I should know lots of English Literature and expand my knowledge of not just one Bronte sister and their books, but all the Bronte’s and their books. I have a feeling from flipping through some of the pages that this book is a little on the sombre side and not full of fluffy unicorns and happily ever afters (Although I could be wrong) But it will be good for me I think to read something by another woman who wrote a classic.

Book Six – Wuthering Heights – By Emily Bronte – Now this one I have indeed heard of before… Maybe because of the film from 1939 that was made by good old Hollywood, or the pop song that sung about it, or the many plays that have been set up and advertised in theatres around the globe. Wuthering Heights is a bit of a storybook icon, I can’t lie. Again I’m not sure its the type of book with fluffy bunnies and all things bright, beautiful and merry. But it is a cult classic that I wish to read and get to know. Plus the fabric bound cover for both this book and the one by Anne Bronte, just make me feel like they are special and should be read.

Book Seven – Dracula – By Bram Stoker – This one unfortunately didn’t appear in my original photo at the top of this blog post so it’s ended up as a kind of book wild card lol. But, where I was using it to help me write my previous post, it ended up missing out on the book haul photo shoot. But, I guess to make up for that it does appear in two blog posts… so… You know, it can’t complain. Again, this book is a deep, dark, blood sucking classic, and as a wanna be horror author and writer I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to own this novel, but also this novel as beautiful looking as this one does. The cover is stunning, a word of glorious, purple and neon looking skull art, that shines and dances in the light. As you may probably know this story is about Dracula, the most famous blood sucking vampire of all time (Eat your heart out Edward Cullen). But as the most famous vampire, it seems only fitting to have him in my book collection.

So as you can see I did go a little mad with my book purchases today, but it does mean that I will have many a book to choose from during my upcoming holiday, but also, just in general… But also that it will help me to understand English Literate more and expand my knowledge of the greats. Plus, I purchased them all from T K MAXX, so I ended up paying a fraction of a price for them all. I paid £52.93 for them all, when the before price that I would have paid would have been, £96.94, that’s a huge saving of £44.01!!! I mean you just can’t go wrong can you?

Let me know, have you read any of these books? What did you think of them.

Take care, Xo Piper Xo
