Social Media Checklist for authors…

Being an author now a days, especially if your self published or if your publishing house doesn’t handle too much of the promotional side, means that your not just a writer, you also become a marketer, advertiser, promoter and all things social media to make sure that your book and your author brand get noticed and that book sales take a boost and not an empty beating.

Here I have come up with a quick checklist for when you upload promotional content to social media;

  • On your social media bio such as Instagram for instance, make sure that it includes and clearly states what type of author you are and what genre you specialise in. That way you can catch the eye of potential readers that actually enjoy reading your genre.
  • Add an eye catching and somewhat bossy #Bossbabe CTA (Call to Action) for example – Grab my latest book here!!! And leave a button, or link so they can go straight to the appropriate website and or place to purchase your book
  • Are all your socials up to date? Make sure that your Bio, your about you page, your book releases, websites and links are all up to date and correct. You don’t want to turn off a prospective reader because your link to your book is broken or out of date. This may cause some form of distrust between them and you but also, they may feel like why should they bother if you don’t!
  • Create Book-Trailers – This is something I have seen many authors do, and that is to create a book trailer in video form with music etc, to pull the reader in and make it look desirable. The book market in these times is so saturated with new releases, that you need to make sure you do all you can to make your book stand out from the crowd.
  • Does your name match across all social media platforms? If no, then make it so. You need to be easy to find for your readership, but also it looks more professional if your name and brand match across all channels.
  • Does your grid and feed match the vibe and tone of your book? Is it a murder mystery but you have fluffy unicorn bunnies jumping all over it? This can confuse and deter your target audience. Make sure it all fits the vibe and aesthetic and looks uniform.
  • Profile Picture – You can have it as you, so your readers know what you look like, or maybe a business logo? Or have it as your most recent book release so people know its you and for that book that they read or want to read but want to check out the cool author.
  • Don’t just go all Rambo with the promo posts! Make sure you are engaging with your audience and showing the real you so they have someone real to connect with. Bamboozling them with just promo posts shows the reader all you care about is sales and not connecting with readers.

I hope these hints and tips help you along your author and writer promotional journey and if you have any other tips then please do feel free to share. I will post more hints and tips as and when I can and when I learn anything new. I love to help other people and other writers and authors, so I wish to continue with blog posts such as this.

Take care, Xo Piper Xo
