My go to comfort food?

What’s your go-to comfort food?

I am definitely a comfort food kinda gal… I’m in no way a gym bunny, good food for my body and soul kinda person all the time. I really wish I was, but I’m not. I have a chronic illness which hinders my body from enjoying exercise. Every time I attempt to go to the gym, sort my body and my wobbly bits out I am left in chronic pain all over my body for days afterwards and then I cannot bring myself to then do it all again, especially to then see no improvement after a few months because my illness causes weight gain due to my hormones. And usually with being so good with your body comes good food, and although I love a good salad, Avocado, Strawberries and the rest, I do at times just want something bad to feel so good.

Because of this I can get very down in the dumps and what do I turn to? Comfort food!!! Some people drink alcohol, again due to my illness and my medication to control it, I cannot really consume alcohol, it irritates my body, causes it to become inflamed and in more pain. So food is my go to when I feel down and want to be comforted by something.

And my favourite go to comfort food is… POP TARTS!!!

Omg I know, I know its so childish, Pop tarts! And so goddamn sugary and bad for me too but they are my comfort food of the moment. They bring me sugary joy and sweeten my personality so I can be happy, if even just for a moment or two.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t consume them all the time and I do eat mostly healthy but these are my weakness!!! The Frosted Strawberry Sensation is my all time favourite flavour, the others I can live without, but the Strawberry one just hits home in a different way to chocolate or other flavours. Then there is the age old question of whether you need to eat just one at a time or two in one sitting. They are wrapped in foil in pairs, and to be honest I don’t want the one I didn’t eat to go stale so… Two it is then!

So far I have managed to try;

  • Frosted Strawberry Sensation
  • Frosted Hot Fudge Sundae
  • Frosted Choco Orange
  • And just the normal chocolate flavour

If I spot any other flavours I will give them a try but I do always tend to fall back down the rabbit hole of the Strawberry flavour. Truthfully I do have a thing for Strawberries, even when I make a fruit salad with yogurt I do love me some strawberries… Yum!!!

I also find when I am in the zone with my writing, or a current work in progress and I just can’t stop for ‘real’ food because then I will lose the writing momentum, I will reach for food stuffs that are easy to make quickly so I can consume them as ‘Author fuel’ and keep going. Which tends to be a quick fruit salad that I can throw in a bowl with some honey flavoured Greek yogurt, or of course, my beloved Pop Tarts!!!

Let me know down below how you like to eat Pop Tarts… Me and my youngest daughter were having a debate the other day, she adores them raw right out of the packet, where as I love them warm but not too cooked, just where the strawberry jam inside is warm and the icing just a little crispy, but not to the point its too overly cooked. Let me know, I’d love to see what people prefer when it comes to Pop Tarts lol.
