When I got to meet one of my favourite authors and content creators – Victoria MaGrath…

I have always had quite low self esteem and I have always tried to find ways to make it so I have better self esteem… One being learning how to do makeup properly so I felt prettier and felt more comfortable in my own skin. I also looked into fashion a bit more too, but I really struggle with fashion and clothing. I have Endometriosis, so I am always bloated which means most clothes don’t fit me properly, or they might one day when I’m not bloated and then the next day I am bloated. Or the top half will fit ok, but the bottom half doesn’t fit, or I have to buy a larger size for my bottom half and then it just looks odd with my smaller top half… URGH… Being a woman is so hard sometimes!!!

But, one influencer and content creator I looked up to a lot was Victoria Magrath who runs the fashion blog – In The Frow… Which basically stands for, In The Front Row… Like at a fashion event and you are important enough to sit at the front row to get the best view.

I found In The Frow and Victoria when I was studying for a makeup artist course back in 2018/ 2019, because as well as wanting to make myself feel better and more beautiful I wanted to make others feel and look beautiful, plus makeup is another art form, another creative outlet.

I also wanted a career change, I worked in retail and I hated it! I only took the retail job to fund my course but I had always worked in retail initially. What frustrated me most was that I was always working hard, aiming for a promotion, but always being overlooked… So I trained hard and came across Victoria’s videos where she was doing ‘GRWM’ videos with makeup and fashion… And amazingly I completed my Makeup Artist course in 2019… I set about setting up a business and then… Covid 19 hit!!! It completely threw off all my hard work, people could no longer meet up, or have interactions with people, people were dying of this horrible illness and the world completely shut down… I was devasted, because it not only meant I couldn’t do my new chosen career path because the world was on pause for over a year and you were not allowed to touch people… It meant I had to stay in my retail job… I was a key worker… I worked in a Supermarket… And even when the world recovered, there was less of a need for makeup artists in my area due to everyone learning how to do it online via Youtube.

But… I digress… Back to when I got to meet the lovely Victoria. So, it was very early 2019, and as a treat for completing my MUA course, I booked a ticket to go to the ‘Glamour Beauty Festival Event’, which was held at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Victoria was doing a talk there on a panel, and I had recently purchased her book and wanted to see the woman behind the masterpiece. The book is an absolute gem, it is a fashionista’s bible but actually also has a lot of useful hints and tips for bloggers and vloggers too so I still refer to it sometimes now, even if it is not for fashion advice or makeup now.

Because I chose to go back to writing after Covid, this book has been useful to me for inspiration and advice on the blogging world but also remembering that the world of fashion is becoming more diverse and even us, bigger gals, or more bloated gals, can still enjoy fashion too. And when I do have special writing events to attend, I still have a quick nose in this book to either see what fashion advice it can give me, or to just hear the voice of a strong, career minded woman who has a very grand career from her blogging. I guess a bit like Manifesting, I am manifesting Victoria’s skills and knowledge of the blogging world so I can use it in my own.

Victoria is such a lovely and sweet woman, her soul just vibrates on a calm, collected and knowledgeable frequency. After her talk for the ‘Glamour Beauty Festival’, I was able to go up and ask for a photo, which she was happy to do and completely made my day. She was so sweet and looked absolutely gorgeous in her pink suit and her silver hair.

It was so nice to meet an author as well. Yes she was a fashion and makeup blogger, but she had written the book ‘The new fashion rules’, which as the title suggests, details the new rules she had set out for the fashion world. Seen as she has a PHD in fashion and is technically a ‘Dr’ in fashion, she is very much qualified to write about new fashion and it’s rules. But again, it was just amazing to meet someone, an author, a person who had spent hours, weeks, and months creating a book baby of their own to let free into the world for us readers to devour.

Such a magical, amazing day for me.

I still watch and enjoy her channel on Youtube now, and I also frequent her blog too. But I’ve decided I’m more of a handbag and book type of gal than a pretty, sexy outfit kinda gal. But I will never forget the day, I got to meet one of my favourite authors!!!
