30 things that make me happy…

Daily writing prompt
List 30 things that make you happy.

I love a good writing prompt, they make me think outside the box, or inside depending on what the topic is… And today I guess is one of those, thinking inside the box, because it’s thinking about me and apparently 30 things that make me happy. This is actually quite hard for me, life has for some time sucked out a lot of happiness from my life, me and my little family have had a rough few years… Well… Decade if we are being precise. And therefore the normal things that make people happy will probably not be on my list, for example, friends… they will not be on my list. I don’t have any… I have a new ‘author’ friend that I made recently… But, she’s more of an alter ego and it’s complicated to describe the relationship we have, she’s more like a twin, so to call her my friend is an injustice, because to me, in my world, friends are not true, not real… They don’t exist… But I digress… I’m sure I can dig deep into my mind and find what truly makes me happy;

  1. My Children – My kids of course make me happy, they are indeed the best thing to ever happen to me, and to be honest, without them, life would not be worth living.
  2. My Husband – The love of my life, of course he makes me happy. And like I said before, I don’t have friends, but I have him, me and him are soulmates.
  3. My Nona / Nan – My lovely, lovely nan. The only family I have other than my husband and kids. I honestly don’t know what I would have done if it wasn’t for her in my life.
  4. Writing – I love writing, writing is the only thing other than my kids, husband and nan that keeps me sane. If I can’t write for a period of time I get very down and depressed, so of course, writing is one of my top 5 things that makes me happy.
  5. My Emotional Support Cats – Or just pet cats, however you want to say it! Those two little s**t’s cause so much havoc and mayhem but I wouldn’t want them any other way.
  6. Being able to Drive – The freedom that comes with being able to drive is freeing. You have a bad day, go for a drive, you have a good day, go for a drive… Driving is freedom.
  7. Reading – To write you need to read and boy do I love reading. I currently have a mission to read 25 books for 2025 and I’m feeling pretty confident.
  8. Sailor Moon – A manga comic that was turned into an anime TV show. It is about a girl who receives super powers to save the world, and she has friends to help her do it and its all related to planets and space. Yeah the friend bit is a little far fetched in my opinion, but as a child it gave me something to hope for and as an adult, it reminds me of my youth and innocence in believing things that were magical and friends could happen.
  9. Twenty One Pilots – My favourite band of all time. I went to see them in concert this year and it was one of the best days of my life.
  10. Resident Evil – The video games, the books and the films. I love them all! Again something from my youth that I have re-lived over and over again.
  11. My Garden – I never used to like gardening, for me I just didn’t want to make someone else’s garden look nice for them when they could buy multiple houses and I couldn’t buy one and had to pay their mortgage and then some. But now, at nearly 40, I own my own home and now, I like to do the garden and make it look nice for me and my little family.
  12. My dream of one day going to Japan – I don’t know when, but I am determined that one day I will get my dream holiday of going to Japan. It could be in twenty years time, but one day, I will get to go.
  13. The Sims – I love the Sims, a game where I can control what happens to a person! Who wouldn’t love that? Only thing is I do tend to make the same type of sim over and over, a famous and well known author… Guess I’m trying to Manifest with a simulation game.
  14. The Big Bang Theory – I love the big bang theory, when ever I’m having a down day I watch a few episodes and straight away I’m laughing out loud and being cheered up by Penny, Sheldon, Leonard, Amy, Raj, Howard, Bernie, Stuart and the rest… It just makes me smile.
  15. Butterflies – They are so pretty and angelic, I love the flutter of a butterflies wings, especially now I have planted Butterfly happy plants and more and more of them come to visit me in my house.
  16. The Open University – I have always wanted a degree but I have never been in a position to do so and or get one. But now, I can!!! Here I come English Literature and Creative Writing Degree…
  17. Signed Author Copies of Books – It just makes me happy buying a book that has been signed by an author. The author has put their whole soul and being into writing and creating a book, and even if they haven’t risen to the likes of J K Rowling with Harry Potter or Stephen King with Carrie or IT, I still want their author autograph… Because to me it is special.
  18. My Study – My study is my place at home I can go to to write and have some alone time. It’s decorated to how I like it, it has all my books, stationary and scented candles. It is my little retreat.
  19. Melanie Martinez – I love her music and it helped inspire my book ‘Death’s Carousel’ but she also makes me happy because my youngest daughter was going through a bad patch last year and listening to her music helped her.
  20. Scented Candles – Because who doesn’t want their home to smell beautiful and amazing.
  21. My Old Typewriter – I found my Typewriter at the tip shop (Yes it is a somewhat second hand shop at the rubbish tip in my town). Me and my husband found an old typewriter at the tip shop, paid a couple of quid for it, took it home, cleaned it up and purchased some ink ribbons for it and Ta-Da… It works. I had always wanted one, I guess due to my love of writing I wanted something that is the image of ‘The Writer’…
  22. Buying more Books – I guess its more collecting books?!? But I love visiting a book store, shop, second hand stall or whatever… if they have books to sell, I have probably been there to buy one.
  23. Kindness – Not many people are kind anymore and that makes me sad. It also makes me not want to be so kind anymore… We need more kindness in the world…
  24. Music – I know I have named a couple of my favourite bands / Artists, but music as a whole I love. I will listen to a lot of different genres and bands. But I enjoy listening to music as it helps me creatively when I want to write.
  25. Money – A lot of people say money doesn’t buy you happiness… But I beg to differ. If my car breaks and I have no money to fix it, that makes me sad. If I want a 99p chocolate bar but I only have 45p in my bank, that makes me sad. If I’m on my period and I need sanitary towels but I don’t get paid till next week… Then I bleed all on my clothes and I’m sad. Money fixes all these things and makes me and people happy. So therefore, I disagree that money can’t buy you happiness, because it bloody can.
  26. Learning – I enjoy learning new things. Whether it be something to do with writing, or how to create something, I love learning.
  27. Pop Tarts – They may be sugary and make me fat but I love them.
  28. Coffee – A coffee a day keeps the sleepy away… Or at least three coffees a day keep the nun nights away.
  29. Silly Cat Videos – Sometimes there is just nothing else that will cheer me up or make me happy other than watching cats do stupid things.
  30. A Clean House – I’m a little OCD, which can make my writing take the back burner sometimes because my brain is obsessing over the fact that I need to do my chores, tidy and clean the house or do the laundry. But once it is all done and my house is sparkling clean… I am happy. Nothing beats a freshly cleaned bathroom and the smell of bleach.

So, there you have it, 30 things that make me happy. Do you agree with any of these for you? Do any of these make you feel happy? Or do you disagree with any? Let me know.
