Ok, ok, so I might have a little bit of a guilty secret to share… I like the Kardashians! I know it is reality TV, I know they have a lot more money than sense, I know that they can be seen as not the best role models at times and kinda got famous over Kim having a saucy video… But I can’t help but like them.
What I like about them is that they have essentially taken the mantra of ‘If life gives you lemons, make lemonade’, to the extreme. Obviously Kim and the Kardashians always had ‘Money’, they were never really what I would call a ‘Classic Poor family‘, they never grew up on a council estate like me, and had times where there was no money for food or gas and electric. But, Kim obviously had that moment in time where a rather saucy video was made of her with an Ex-boyfriend, and it catapulted her and her family into the spotlight. And what did they do with that light? Well they shone it so damn bright that no one was going to be forgetting about them anytime soon. I remember watching the television series and being addicted, it was hilarious seeing the sibling rivalries, the brand deals, the boyfriends, the breakups, the babies… It is a family like any other living their lives, but with camera’s 24/7. I know now they are not just like an ordinary family with jetting off around the world on so many holidays and the businesses they can now own because of their fame etc… But originally, I liked the chaos, the family, the sisterhood…
One of my favourite Kardashian / Jenner’s has to be Kris, the Matriarch of the family. I don’t know whether its because I’m a little older now, or because I am a Mumma Bear myself and that I would love to be able to do what she has done for her kids and make sure that they have the best chance at the best life ever with her Momager skills and money. But because she is one of my favourites I just had to buy her book when I spotted it! And I basically wanted to find out all her secrets.
The book itself is actually quite eye opening, there was actually so much from Kris’ past that I had no idea about. I had seen this woman onscreen who was the loving mum and wife, but she opened up in her book about having moments in life when she made wrong decisions and choices, and honestly it made her seem more human, more real, not so robotic which is how television can sometimes portray her because she can be very shielding and secretive on screen and not share everything, even though her life is on camera all the time. Obviously, the family share onscreen what it is they want to share and some things will be hidden… Unless of course it’s a great hook for the series to bring viewers in.
There was also the part in the book which discussed the murder of her best friend and the trial of the man who had loved her and ‘murdered’ her. There was also the heartache she felt at her husband / ex-husband Robert Kardashian becoming the Lawyer of the person she saw had killed her best friend.
The book itself is filled with ups and downs of Kris’ life, it is how she got to where she is today. Starting out as an Air Stewardess, to becoming a Momager to the Kardashian and Jenner siblings and making them into a multi-million / billion dollar empire. And also finding love again after Robert with Bruce Jenner. The book of course was written before Bruce became Caitlyn Jenner, but it was sweet to see how the couple met and how their lives intertwined and brought us Kendall Jenner and of course Kylie Jenner, who’s makeup I absolutely love!!!
I think this type of book, of course is for the die hard fans of the Kardashian’s and Jenner’s, and I guess would become part of a collection of sorts, but it’s also a great read to see into the life of one of the most influential and most seen families, but this is about before when we knew them, it comes from Kris and her history, her story, not just all about Kim, or Kourtney, or Khloe, or Rob or Kendall or lastly Kylie… It was about her and her life and I would really recommend it. It might also be good for those that are interested in true crime as it does have a lot of perspective on the Nicole murder and OJ Simpson case. Things that people might not have known about before.
Essentially this book is a biography, and as well as liking the Kardashians, I also like reading Biographies and Auto-Biographies and seeing how some famous people became to be famous… I guess I am nosey like that lol. But yeah, it was a good read, I would read it again and I would recommend.
Have you read it, what did you think? And do you like the Kardashians? Let me know.
