Four Cosy Reads for Autumn… And One Bonus Read…

Today’s blog post is about four books that I would consider a nice and cosy read for the Autumnal time of year. A good book to sit down with whilst drinking a nice hot cup of hot chocolate and a good scented candle to make the mood more cosy and inviting. And I have also added a bonus book, because whilst it is not in the slightest cosy in theme as it is a thriller / horror, it is a good read for Halloween which naturally falls in October, when it is cosy season.

The four books I have chosen are;

  • The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore – This is a great heart warming romance story about Jeanie who inherits her aunts beloved café, which is conveniently for this time of year called ‘The Pumpkin Spice Café’, which is very fitting seen as the cover has all kinds of ‘Autumn’ vibes on it with the orange and golds with the turning of the leaves on the trees, the pumpkins by the door as decorations and just the name… Because Autumn is the time when coffee companies tend to sell the Pumpkin Spiced Lattes. She meets a rather ruggedly handsome and grumpy farmer by the name of Logan who seems to want nothing to do with her… But can he stay away from her cheeky and happy go lucky self or the Pumpkin Spice Lattes that she sells in her sweet coffee shop.
  • The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore By Laurie Gilmore – Ok so another book by the same author, it is the next one in the Dream Harbor series but follows on with different characters and romances. Whilst this one is not necessarily set in Autumn in the first instance it does move through the months and seasons to settle in late Autumn. But the theme of Cinnamon Buns also gives me Autumn vibes just like Pumpkin Spice, almost as if the two go together hand in hand. Plus the cover is also just as ‘Autumnal’ as the other book, it has the turning of leaves on the trees with the burnt orange shades, there are no golden leaves on this one though, the shining leaves on this book are more bronze in tone, but the shining bronze Autumn like leaves sweep across the cover giving just such cosy vibes. This story follows Hazel, a bookstore manager who finds some interesting clues inside a book she reads. The local fisherman Noah has eyes only for Hazel but she doesn’t realise, so when an opportunity presents itself for him to help her with solving the clues so he can spend more time with her he jumps at the chance. As they solve each clue they grow closer and closer together, but will Hazel let him into her heart, or will she find the age gap too much and her shyness.
  • ReWitched by Lucy Jane Wood – This book follows Belladonna Blackthorn whose magical means has withered to the point she wonders if she has lost her spark. She is stressed, a toxic boss, working hard at the bookshop and concealing magic from others has left her burnt out. But as her birthday looms she is forced to prove to her coven she is worthy but there may be dark forces acting against her to stop her. I do actually have yet to read this book, but I thought what better time of year to sit and read something witchy and magical, especially as it is Halloween very soon, and the veil is thin at Halloween, so all magical goings on are better at this cosy time of year. Plus lighting a nice scented candle and reading a witchy book is in itself its own kind of magic. The cover is cute and looks quite Autumnal with its oranges with the moon, the trees and even the magical swirl that seems to burst from her window. I really look forward to reading this one.
  • The Keeper of the Key by Mercedes Prunty – The burnt oranges made me think of this book by my friend and helpful publisher Mercedes Prunty. This book again is not necessarily set in Autumn but it does hold magical tendencies which again I think fit in with the magical time of Halloween this time of year. The story is about a girl named Selene who is working hard in the big city of London but strange dreams keep calling to her and the scent of Jasmine lingers in the air. Soon mysterious shadow men are trying to kill her, they want the ‘Key’… The Key that unlocks a portal in the great gate in Peru, the ‘Puerta de Hayu Marca’ otherwise known as the gate to the Gods. Learning she only has a few days to save the world she is thrown in at the deep end with powers she never knew she had and monsters she never knew existed. Can she stop the Shadow Master from obtaining the world as a whole and letting it tumble into an eternal darkness? Or will those she thought she could trust push her to her limits to see her fail? Before each chapter this book has some cute drawings of what the author imagined each chapter to visually look like. Such an interesting read and great with a cuppa hot chocolate and a nice candle.
  • The fifth book is like a bonus book, it is not very Autumnal and it is very far from being cosy as it is a horror / thriller story of revenge and deathly lullabies. And it is a little plug for me as it is of course my own book. I mean how can I not try and recommend my own book, especially when it is nearing Halloween which would be the perfect time to read it. So… Death’s Carousel by me, Piper Nuelle – The cover is far from cosy and cutesy with blood splatters over a Carousel horse, but there is the odd orangey tone. The story is set in Rivervalle, a small sleepy town where everyone knows your business and everyone knows your secrets and no one forgives or forgets. Especially the unknown killer who is exacting revenge on their high school bullies and is slowly murdering them one by one with a deathly lullaby… Basically using the way they bullied them as the way they make their demise. But will anyone escape? Can the group of bullies that are close friends discover who is behind the killings? Or will they all become the main performances and the star studded splatters on the stage? Link here if you wish to check out my book and also quick mention, on Halloween the 31st October the Kindle version will be free to download!!! Death’s Carousel by Piper Nuelle

So, there you have it, my four cosy reads for Autumn and the one bonus one which I feel needs an honourable mention.

What books would you recommend for cosy Autumn reading? Let me know.
