You may remember my blog post the other week where I had a huge book haul from ‘The Works’ and it was ‘The Dream Harbour Series‘ from Laurie Gilmore. They are romance novels with a very cute sweet treat themed title and usually centred around some form of store, whether it be a Café, Pancake house, Farm, Bakery or bookstore… And as you can see from the image and the title of my post that today’s book review is of The Cinnamon Bun Book Store!!!
This story follows on from the first book which was The Pumpkin Spice Café but it doesn’t follow the same lead characters. They are mentioned within the story and are present as friends to the new central characters, but this story follows the lives of Hazel, the book store manager and Noah a fisherman who runs boat tours.
Hazel is a sweet, book obsessed book worm who runs the Cinnamon Bun Book Store, she is a somewhat shy girl who is looking to liven up her life a little, and she looks to liven it up with the local town hottie Noah. But, what she doesn’t realise is that Noah has fancied the pants off her for months and has only been going into the book store to buy books to be closer to her.
All of a sudden Hazel finds clues hidden in books in her store and with the help of Noah she sets out on an adventure around Dream Harbour to find the ‘Treasure’. But will the treasure end up being a long term relationship or a summer fling?

I really enjoyed this book, as it carried on from the first one in the series I knew that there was going to be a little bump and grind love action, but this one blew me away a little. Because the author has managed to give each book so far, and the characters so far their own sexual personality, it’s not all the same quickie in a closet, or in bed under the sheets. They have shown that people’s sexual experiences and encounters are different depending on the people and the partners they are with, and I feel this gives the story a great deal of realism and makes it so you can connect with the characters. I also like the fact that the characters are normal people with normal jobs, they struggle to get by, they have rent to pay, they do things that are normal but realistic, and again I really enjoy the sense of realism because it feels like these are people you could really know and get along with in real life. Plus it’s cute to see how these adults in their 20’s and 30’s are reliving the excitement of a new love interest like how it was back in the day when you had your first love as a teenager. It’s fun and exciting for all!
The front cover like I mentioned before in a previous post is why I fell head over heels for this series. The cute buildings with their seasonal attire and theme, the cat at the front door and the sign holding the name of the sweet treat themed shop. It all just screams cosy, easy read for when you just want to unwind, relax and enjoy a good book that isn’t too stressful to read.
I look forward to reading the next one in this series and I do have to say that I am truly loving this series so far if you haven’t noticed, and I’m actually getting through them quite quickly for me, and lately I am having to find time to read as I have a huge university essay to write, plan and submit, but I’m finding I just can’t leave these books alone, it’s like I’m addicted to them and need to read more!!! So, I’m sure I will be reviewing the next one very, very soon! So watch this space…
Thanks for reading, Xo Piper Xo
